ISRO chiefs s somnath was diagnosed with cancer on the day Aditya L-1 launched
S. Somanath is an Indian aerospace engineer and the current chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), taking office in January 2022. Prior to his appointment as ISRO chief, Somanath has had a distinguished career in the field of space and rocket technology.
He played significant roles in the development of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and was involved in the GSLV Mk III (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III) project.
Somanath's expertise and leadership are expected to guide ISRO through various upcoming projects, including missions to the Moon, Mars, and the development of new launch vehicles.
