Gautam Gambhir is a former Indian cricketer and a politician. Born on October 14, 1981, in Delhi, India, he was a left-handed opening batsman who played a crucial role in India's successes in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Gambhir was known for his aggressive batting style and played for the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gambhir made his One Day International (ODI) debut for India in April 2003 against Bangladesh, and his Test debut came in November 2004 against Australia. Throughout his career, he scored over 10,000 runs in international cricket across all formats. His notable performances include a 97 in the final of the 2011 World Cup, which was instrumental in India's victory.
After retiring from all forms of cricket, Gautam Gambhir ventured into politics. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2019 and was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the East Delhi constituency in the 2019 Indian general elections.
